The Process
-
Use the Contact page to reach out to MK and begin a discussion. There are a lot of factors that go into commissioning a painting and the artist is more than willing to talk through options and help guide you through this process.
-
One of the most important parts of the commission process is choosing one or several good references for the artist to work from. Think of it like this, the better the reference, the better the painting. You can find more information on photo references below.
-
Pricing cannot be accurately determined until the subject and size has been decided. While you can use the Portrait Pricing section below to get an idea of how much your commission may cost, your actual quote will be the result of an ongoing conversation between yourself and the artist.
-
Once the details of the commission have been decided, you will be given an estimate of when your commission will begin. While there is generally a wait of 3-6 months before, exceptions can sometimes be made for special circumstances and you can discuss those with the artist.
-
A 40% deposit is required before work can start.
-
If requested, you may receive progress pictures as work on your painting gets underway. You can discuss these details with the artist.
Portrait Pricing
This section primarily pertains to pet portraiture, though many of the factors listed can be applied to people portraits and wildlife. Things like size, background, number of subjects, and type of portrait can add or subtract from the estimates given below.
Landscape pricing is different and dependent on the reference provided. Please contact the artist directly to discuss commissioning a landscape painting.

Photo References
Choosing the right photo is one of the most important parts of the commission process. Working with the artist on finding the best possible image is the best way to ensure you get the result you want but some things to take into consideration are below.
-
-
A well lit photo can make the difference between a good painting and a great one.
-
Sometimes you have a great photo with a less than ideal background. You can work with the artist to replace the background with that from another image as well as a variety of other solutions.
